Surprised she would just, take their side. Things feel off. Unless this a ploy maybe?
Do remember she has now basically lost her father and it seems she never know about her fathers twin brother. So she is most likely seeing this as a form of escapism since he looks just like her dad, saw a place full of other dwarves, and she’s getting the recognition she always wanted to hear. She still has an adolescent mind, and so she most likely but that off due to having to deal with the hero’s shitty edgy personality and not having any known way home.

It's a bit sad this is the past and there's some stuff happening because it would've been so very wholesome to just have her live and enjoy building things with the other dwarfs.

I'm getting a bit suspicious of some of these backgrounds, they look a bit artificial, I hope I'm wrong though…
Just because something looks out of place doesn't immediately mean it's AI.

The author is clearly using pre-made pre-rendered assets for many of his backgrounds and then applying filters to blend them in with the rest of the art. It's a well known and very old technique called photo bashing.

You can tell because in a lot of cases he enlarges them too much and there's pixelation. If he was using AI this wouldn't be an issue since he could just re-render.

In other instances, he is using pre-made textures and then drawing line art over them to create perspective (this is very noticeable on the floor tiling on page 13 if you zoom in) .

When it comes to digital manga this kind of stuff is common, especially nowadays when you can so easily get all these assets and save yourself a lot of repetitive work.

And it has been a thing for 2 decades.

Like you said, a lot of artist use pre-rendered images, heck... Akamatsu Ken used to post the digital models of the background he does.

In his case, he did make the models, but he used all the little shortcuts to help ease the workload too.

My opinion of his character art and design has changed with the years... still good, but kinda repetitive and lacks texture... but his background... woooh boy... those were top notch.

Some of the best mix of "sci-fi" and fantasy I have seen, the magical world he created really felt like a civilization that developed technologically with the ability to bend reality.

Unfortunately, when he did UQ Holder, I think he entirely changed to digital, and his art lost some of the rough charm it had... it got too "streamlined", it was too flat and straight, at least in the character art, background was still very good.

Well, that confirms that there's no time travel involved. They're in the present, not 1000 years ago.

But the how is Harold(the hero from 1000 years ago) still alive?

Most likely the current world they are in is different than both the hero and she came. They have been constantly referring to the world as 'Abandoned' which could imply this world is some sort of prison world where undesirables are sent to.
It was incredibly odd that their original world seemed way too peaceful and dead set against any form of weaponry even if magic was prevalent.

I'm gonna guess that the Dwarf wants to use that demon arm as part of the robot, in order to give it the power boost needed to break out of Abandoned. But then, the demon arm is gonna take control of the robot, causing it to rampage and the Hero/Carrie will be forced to destroy it.

Interesting that the dwarves are actually really short here and so's Carrie. You can compare the heights in the panel that shows a distant shot of Harold, mage girl, Carrie and the dwarves.

Assuming Harold is 6 feet tall the dwarves and 3-3.5 feet and Carrie is 4.5 feet tall.

I’ll read oldies from before the pc and internet age and just jaw drop from how much work it must’ve taken the masters. They don’t make em like that anymore.

My favorite is the architecture from Blame!
