Maybe this was answered in a previous chapter but how come the chapter numbers are off? This chapter says its chapter 39 but on Mangadex its 40, but also the previous chapter says its 37 while being Mangadex 39.3 (which suggests a missing chapter?), and the chapter before that says its also 37 for some reason. And looking back it seems this disconnect has been around for a while?

I don't know, we'll find out when the physical volume comes out

I haven't read the last 2 volumes, but the novel is pretty much just Adachi and Shimamura with no third wheel, and sometimes a little bit of Hino and Nagafuji's relationship too

All these people talking about the imminent climax of the story...it's just funny because reading this with no foreknowledge, after the last chapter especially of Shimamura just continuing to be her dead-inside self, it certainly doesn't feel like that at all. I guess there will be some sudden and rapid developments.

Yeah, Shimamura reveals later in the novel, when they're older and together, that she first fell in love with Adachi the day she confessed to her. She even comments on knowing that sounds shallow but says that's just the way it was.
