Idk why but that specific line "OH COME ON" give off such perfect description about their unique dynamic

Shima KNOWS knows Adachi, but more important is that, she likes to play with it like a game.
She doesn't want to hear Adachi crumbling through the phone, but she would love to see it face to face.
She enjoys the fact that Adachi is a jealous person, but she doesn't like to see Adachi being like it in front of her.

It describes Shima's unique personality perfectly, and also shows that she subconsciously cares about Adachi more than she ever thought.

From a normal POV their relationship ain't the healthiest but Adachi is the only one that can provide Shimamura with that spice on life that she was lacking (she always felt she was weird for being so apathetic about the world around her) and Shimamura is the only one with the required nerves of steel to put up with Adachi, so they perfectly complement each other in their own fucked up way. Like neutralizing an acid with a base.

I hope the manga version is a little different from the novel. I want to see Tarumi meet Adachi directly, whose status is officially Shimamura's girlfriend. I'm quite curious about the reactions of both of them (Adachi and Tarumi) as well as Shimamura. Hopefully there will be no bloodshed

Unlikely. Although considering how important Yashiro is in 99.9 it would be a fun way to troll manga only readers.

It's been a long time since I've come back to this, has shimamura always seemed this apathetic? Emotionless? (Not sure of the right word to use) When something happens between them it seems to her as just a thing that partners do, I'm not seeing any real reaction.

That's...that's pretty much her entire character. This past few chapters are the first time we've actually seen her express anything other than that.

However, the "if you care about someone you have to distance yourself from others" is one of those toxic monogamy things that always seems so alien to me.

it's not that she's dense it's more her personality and how she's lived up until now influencing her. she actually really loves adachi and when she realizes it there's no going back. imo some of the cutest moments between them in the story come from shima lol
i do recommend reading the novels if you dont wanna wait years to see this unfold

Tbh I really relate to Shimamura. I think the reason I didn't get it when people here say she's a psychopath, is a red flag or has big issues is because my thought process is pretty close to hers. After all, it's pretty difficult to regard something so similar to oneself as being wrong or abnormal.

relatable. I thought this at first, but as i started paying more attention to those around me since reading this series, I realized that I, and maybe you, am different. It kinda feels like I have a different set of thoughts and emotions than other people. Something that helped me realize this is that i have a wide variety of friends and people around me. paying attention to other people helped me know more about myself. Also, i talked to my mom about my thoughts and she said i might be a sociopath, so I think the commenters are valid
