Add notifications for notifications

Today I found out nine days ago someone wrote me a message. I didn't find out earlier because I never received the e-mail notification and there is no indication in the site that you've got new notifications, unless you open the user menu at the top right (and even then only notification is the colored envelope).

Would it be possible to add some kind of in-site notification that you have a new notification? Like some kind of toast or alert or browser's native notification?

Genuinely asking here OP, but are you colorblind? If so, I could see how the notifications in the top right wouldn't be as visible to you.

They're really easy to see on the desktop version of the site though. Idk about mobile tho, as I'm not a filthy phoneposter.

I don't see any notification until I expand the menu, then the colored icons are visible; so if you rarely open the menu you'll never see them.
