In my opinion, the information in the new arc fits too neatly into the most expected theory - or even several theories - about the reasons behind Rika’s behavior.Some interesting paths opened up after todays chapter. What if the "whore" is not her, but instead, her mother? Basically:
- Rika's the child of an adultery case;
- When her father found out, he abandoned both her and her mother;
- Without a proper income, her mother started whoring herself to pay the bills;
- The main target/public of whores are married man;
- Rika eventually starts to whore herself in high school( she needed money for herself, and at school age...there's a "market" for these things in Japan, even if denied);
- She advances towards Social Media( funningly, while not stating in which year the story occurs, Shingo's backstory makes me think Social media was a little more advanced then by what i believe would be chronologically accurate if it happened noawadays-2025);
- Her bussiness grows into more than just physical sex, but also content creator for this kind of thing.
- She somewhat becomes compromised, and her image, whle not all, is partially stained;
- She doesn't know how to proceed, and that's when she meets Sousuke again;
- She marries him in order to promote an image cleaning and get rid of any suspects towards her;
- She has Shiho to babytrap Sousuke and keep up appearances;
- Steadily, but surely, she regains her bussiness and now upgrades it with Advisory;
- Thanks to Sousuke, it's not over to her and her bussiness.
As for her Libido: i was talking with @UROD-PC about the issue with Lust. While it is more fixed as a sexual thing, it can mean a strong craving, longing for something. For example: Shingo's craving is way less about sex and more about attention. Rika's could be she receives pleasure from not only sex, but rather from seeing people self-destruct along their loved ones, because they're consumed by lust. Maybe from trauma about what happened to her mom and/or whoring in her life( regardless of the timeline i used)?
If we take everything the sisters said about the Miyase family at face value, then the most obvious explanation is that she’s simply repeating one of her parents’ patterns due to childhood trauma, which sounds extremely dull and bland to me.
As for the origin of these rumors - given the manga’s theme, namely “dirty” online activity - it’s possible that the family, or one of its members, was involved in producing questionable content or took part in borderline-moral photo shoots. (It might have even involved coercion of minors.)
This seems realistic considering the moral climate of a rural community; you don’t need to literally fall into filth to earn a “mark of depravity” - a small pretext is enough for such rumors.
And it would be strange to expect any significant profitability in such a small settlement; if someone was “selling their body,” I doubt it happened here.
The vagueness of the rumors themselves and the sisters’ lack of prior interest in them is also odd, especially given that Misato knows who Sosuke’s wife is.
This is particularly unengaging from the detective perspective. For dozens of chapters, Sosuke was obsessed with finding any solid “evidence,” and now we’re once again forced to take the word of two people - one he hasn’t seen since childhood and the other he doesn’t know at all.
And the younger sister’s behavior is hardly trustworthy either: while on her own turf, she plans to have sex with a married man, even though just a few pages earlier she was tarnishing the reputation of his lawful wife - the wife of a man her older sister clearly has feelings for.
And all of this happens precisely when Sosuke is unable to verify the information with third parties, making it look very much like a deliberate attempt to hurt him and then “comfort” him afterward.
This certainly doesn’t add any credibility to her as a source of information about Rika.
Sosuke is locked in the same room with them, far from other homes; the tension and intrigue, in my view, are only increasing, and the main twist hasn’t happened yet.
We can only wait to see whether Misato’s claims will be confirmed by third parties (questioning other residents, especially the Miyase family’s neighbors, and confirming that the house really belonged to them) - which, in my opinion, is the key point at this stage.
And I think it’s obvious that Sosuke will refuse to sleep with her; it would be completely pointless given his deep respect for the much-beloved Akiba.
