In other news & I'd hate to bring this up but just fair warning: Nikumaru sensei's recent oneshot got translated by the same translator.

That one-shot, this manga, and Bad Girl, are perfect examples of how content varies between different magazines, even from the same mangaka.

That one-shot was published in Yanmaga, a seinen magazine for stories heavy on sexual themes, cheating, and NTR (like that new swapping manga making the rounds in the rankings where the BF isn't 100% on board with it, Daredemo Dakeru Kimi ga Suki, or NTRevenge). The story fits perfectly with the magazine’s tone.

This manga is published on the shounen magazine Sunday Web Every (Weekly Shounen Sunday), which ranges from fantasy (Frieren) to wholesome romcoms (Mikadono) to spicier ones like this manga, but it never goes too far, which is why I don’t think this manga will pull the trigger or go all in explicitly (like the one-shot did, but it’s certainly been tiptoeing and pushing the limit. Some ads even make it seem as part of the magazine’s "dark side," while if it was in Yanmaga, it’d be considered on the average, softer side lol).

And Bad Girl is in COMIC FUZ, a seinen magazine which typically features lighthearted stories with usual themes like IDOL X IDOL and the Kikuri Hiroi from Bocchi the Rock's side story manga or more grounded in interpersonal stories, like that manga with the super toxic comment section here, where the MC takes in a girl he dated 17 years ago who now has a daughter, which, despite the plot, has a very soft SoL comedy nature to it.

Of course, every magazine has exceptions to its own rules, but I just found this interesting.

I really think the author can only write scenarios. Stories are compelling because they flow as a chain of cause and effect, but in this case, no matter what happens, nothing ever comes of it. Things just start on their own and resolve themselves. Like Shizuku's temptation and exit, or Umimi's monologues. It’s painfully obvious that the author only wants to show off the hidden settings in their head and has no intention of actually weaving a story. As a reader, all I can think is, 'So what?'

She won't date Riku because relationships falls apart. So her solution? Date someone close to him? Because that relationship won't fall apart like the one with Riku might? Like Holy hell is that just stupid. Either she thinks relationships won't work or doesn't, there's no person who would go "can't date the directly because dating doesn't work out, but dating someone else because they might be with him forever is smart!" The entire thing still hinges on dating.

Shame, it was a good mystery to start, the authors just dog shit.
