Of course they wouldn't let afro guy be some kind of secret master. Still his rakugo is powerful, but power is all it has.

his ego is so big, it drowns out the personalities and emotion of the original story, and hes shocked audience can only see him

This reminds me of when Michael Richards went on Letterman to apologise for a racist outburst, and the audience kept laughing because all they could see was "Kramer" from Seinfeld

Zensho is suffering from the same thing, everyone is expecting a hilarious Rakugo story, even though he is playing it 1,000% seriously

Man Zensho has it tough. I can really imagine he actually is trying to get a different reaction but all he gets are laughs. Like can you imagine how frustrating that would be as an artist trying to paint a sad or gloomy image but everyone only finds it funny?

my favorite part about this is how even the page of Zensho being shocked by the reaction reads like a punchline, but what a terrifying thing to contend with though. Laid his self bare to the audience to a point that you can literally only see him in the story, and found himself met with roaring laughter

it's such a unique take from something like Akane's Shinigami that worked with the audience too, I'm really curious to see what she'll take away from this, and what exactly Shiguma told Zensho all those years ago......

I truly believe he is some kind of secret master, just not the normal one we thought of.

It only unintentional in a very few case like this.
He know he has this "problem" for a long long time, so if he just lean into it then it's intentional, and seem like it's what he has been doing, he is the master of comedy.
It just that sometime he tried to go for a little more "dramatic", it doesn't work.

Literally going back to Akane's Fetching Tea and what Urara taught her. She have this problem of not being able to perform "seducing" role, it become "comedy" unintentionally, but she decided to lean into it and it become intentional

For once I don't feel like I'm buying what the author is trying to tell. I can usually suspend my disbelief for how these performances and performers are portrayed with their individual takes on the craft, but this time I'm not feeling it. Maybe it can be salvaged somehow in the next chapter...

I think you can tried to think of some real life example for this, like some comedian actor that people can't never take them seriously if they do drama work.

Like I know a lot of people used to think like that toward Adam Sandler, and some still do.

Looking back on Sandler, I'd rather say they're a shitty comedic actor and a good dramatic one.
