Well I’m interested in this side plot. Lily is learning all the human sides of her through Mai. Definitely a “coming-of-devil/human-age” story. After Mai crushed on an aromantic and/or asexual girl for the first run, I can imagine Mai being cautious. There’s a lot of mysteries for Mai about the devil race. Essentially, it still wasn’t that long ago when Mai was worried she just seemed like a meal or snack to Lily. So this is about the right time. Ah adolescence.
