Sniping is a problem for several reasons
Thanks for being one of the rare voices of reason in this thread.
If they cant upload here than its the same as being dropped on here. I'd say youre good to go.
But honestly nothing is explicitly disallowing anyone to work on existing scanlations anyway.
I'm skipping a few messages, but these are quotes from DMs (which were pretty amicable in my opinion):
"my only problem is that we now have 2 groups working on the same manga"
...
"I can't stop you 🤷♂️"
He was commissioned to do these chapters and the person commissioning him wanted this specific manga, even if the chapters were already available for free on basically every other aggregator (the person commissioning these chapters was made aware of the fact that they're already available for free elsewhere, but wasn't interested in changing his commission).
It is a bit of a head-scratcher that someone would specifically commission chapters to be present on MD, especially now that they're in the middle of pulling a crunchyroll. It's their money at the end of the day, so who is anyone to tell them how to spend it.
But yes, I agree no one owns a series (
especially so if someone paywalls).
Do understand that, overall, it's a loss for everyone if there's multiple groups working on the same series as you just end up with less series being worked on in total.
Darkshade explained it pretty good.
I believe it was specifically Official229 re-adding in a credits joke that got removed because of implied N-word (whether or not implied word jokes are bad is a seperate topic, they did in fact do something against the mod's wishes which is always a no-no if you aren't self-hosting).
Something like that.
they posted jokes about racial slurs, which is a bannable offense, context doesn't matter
Sure am having trouble finding the rule though

.
In fact, I genuinely can't find any rule that mentions it... at the very least, it isn't present on the community guidelines tab.
Then again, I think they're keeping it intentionally vague or something so people don't try to walk the line.
Negative reactions were only really present here on MD, and even then it was actually more of a mixed reaction than an overall negative one. For reference, the readers on the other aggregator site found it pretty unanimously hilarious.
I'd link the relevant site's discussion board so you could check for yourself, but that'd be going against the rules

(I think, not sure anymore to be honest). You'll have to look up the site and the relevant chapter yourself.
As for the actual ban, most of the mods (from what I've gathered) were cool with it (given that there were like ~20 or something rejected reports and they themselves stating they were cool with it).
It was really just one mod in particular whose reasoning was basically "if someone
could think it is bad, it is bad" and refused to budge on it (or something like that, it's kinda hard to tell what his line of logic was because it made no sense).
It is what it is 🤷♂️
