@tigerstar186 I think the point of this chapter was to demonstrate how inept she is in a group combat setting. She was told they would likely be able to handle it, so she acted on that assumption. She knew everyone had a protection charm, and planned to intervene if needed, but failed to realize not everyone would be as alert as her. She seemed to want to help them improve, but went about it the wrong way.
Also, she reacted to the wolf even before he did, but he pushed her out of the way and got in front of her. The monsters were likely low level, so it likely moved far slower than the knight captain from before. She definitely would have dealt with it before it could reach them if he had not literally gotten in the way.
He could just be stepping up knowing she will protect him, at the same time earning her trust. It’s apparent that she’s been approached by people with hidden agenda’s. Who’s to say he’s not one. Plus she’s infamous in the whole school with her black hair, so it seems like an obvious scheme.
As for the doki doki scene. She fell in love too early. He still seems suspicious. Not only that, she’s killed(if she counts animals/monsters as living beings). She’s in a setting where she’s pushed by several political powers. Shouldn’t she be cautious from all that?
She’s been killing and has constant political stress, yet she’s chill. Maybe she thinks killing monsters is justified. The political stuff she can just leave if she wanted to so she feels nothing. She’s just carefree and believes nothing could harm her. So her only worry is a friend. This carefree nature is probably disregarding anything suspicious. Making the story still seem lighthearted.
