@hedgemoney i would like to posit that there’s one more variable in play — the target demographic for the original publishing. If it’s originally aimed at the shounen/shoujo/young-adult market, that is to say from tweens to teens, young -bodied-MC x same-physical-aged romantic interest shouldn’t be too much a problem. Rather it would be quite weird at the least (if not outright disturbing depending on the implementation) to be introducing young readers to the concept of (physically) underage mc pursuing only mature partners as that would ironically make the relationship pedo all over again if it breaks the half-plus-seven rule. Might count as actual grooming from the publisher if that’s the story’s plot.

If the story is actually marketed towards the seinen/josei crowd then two way romantic feelings between the mentally older mc and the underaged romantic interest would likely be somewhat wrong or plain wrong depending on how badly it breaks the half-plus-seven rule and how viable the excuses the author makes are (best excuse i saw was the author spread out within the story’s that the mc’s new, physically younger body was overwriting their previous mindset causing their mind to regress, ie nature trumps nurture). Mc x mature person could arguably get a “pass” because we can intellectually figure out mc is an adult of sorts ( but personally i get weirded out by the cradle robbing love interest )

Honestly, We’re probably never going to have a concrete answer since this falls under nature vs nurture and goodness knows how long that debate’s gone unresolved. Personally, I think half of the isekais could’ve benefitted if they were simply written as platonic relationships.

Anyhoo have a happy new year!

So from what I'm guessing, both Sophia and Cyril will get their own harems but then end up with each other?

@hedgemoney The "Age of consent is 13 in Japan" thing is a bit misleading, actually. The age of consent at a national level is 13, yes, but almost every part of the country has set local legislation with much more reasonable rulings. The lowest age of consent at a local level is 16, and there have been several campaigns by various groups to raise it there on a national level as well.

It isn't because of being "unable to save everyone"
Rather, it is the act of creating an image that someone is capable of taking the burden of another, thus establishing a reputation that they must henceforth fulfill. Such is the politicians of modern day in their ad campaigns establishing "support for those in need" to boost their standings in the election, and once they get the seat, they are unable to or utterly neglect what they started, thus "Hypocrisy."

And I truly believe that the author takes from this fact as well.

Well, it's a cynical tragedy, I suppose. The lady's conclusion is correct, though. Just do right in front of her, and one day do the best she can for as many as she can. It's all anyone can do.

You know, I actually quite appreciate the off-hand comment that the family and servants already prepared what that one noble kid needed. It turns a kid from a brat to a brat who failed the lesson his family was in the process of teaching.

Though others may disagree with his words, Cyril is correct in both his words and actions. Harsh, but correct. If he desires to avoid causing Sofia to get involved with the Dark Guild, it’s very important to try and frame the situation in such a way that she would desire not to intervene, regardless of moral quandary.

However he didn’t account for Sofia’s morals to be the deciding factor, because of how he helped her grow, she is an upstanding and moral woman who desires to help those in need, so that they don’t have to go through what she did.

Which is why, despite losing to her this time, he was very proud of her for making the decision she did. It proves that she truly is a good person, and that all his hard work made a difference. But now he has to get his hands a little dirty and deal with those unsavory individuals, in order to clean the board before making a move, it’s important to take note of your pieces after all.

I really think people misunderstand what Cyril was trying to do here.

She said “is” not “was” she’s essentially calling Cyril her current partner, claiming him to be hers. No wonder Sofia got pissed when she heard that, it was all implicit, hell it may not have even been intentional, but regardless of intent, that is what was said.

It took a second read to notice it, I’m currently re-reading the manga so I’ve begun to notice these little things. But there are a lot of layers to the words chosen, how they’re said, and by whom.
