Its eventually revealed that her parents' spirits immediately abandoned them because of what they did to Bridget. Meaning the entire time, they've been completely powerless/spiritless since that day. The trash dad covered it up by adopting a boy with a powerful spirit of the same type, and passed off the spirit as his own. For the crime of deceiving the royal family and disrupting Bridget's ability to use an extremely powerful spirit for the nation, both her parents are imprisoned.

Her mother is actually not mentally well. Who knows what that bastard husband/“father” might’ve said to her. Not to mention the gossip that would’ve come about that she was unfaithful.
Less that her spirit abandoned her, she’s willingly keeping it away. I heard that she’s been possessed by a dark entity that’s feeding off her but she allows it cuz it gives her illusions of a happy Bridgette.
She was so shocked at her husband’s cruelty to their child and her not doing anything in the chaos of when he burned her that it struck her ill.
