Thanks for the chapter!
Agree it's odd that there's all sorts of only bad rumors about him, but no concrete evidence of wrongdoing. As for that collector while he does have the right to collect on what he's owed, that's no excuse for bullying a girl or trampling her merchandise just because he doesn't consider it worth much. Although from sound of things he's just trying to rush the girl into selling off the family's land rather than concerned about getting his money. Especially considering he just tried to attack a noble who offered to pay the debt. I might be mistaken but aren't most societies around that cultural and technological level have rules specifically forbidding commoners from attacking nobles with high penalties for doing so? Basically attacker is jailed for a really long time, or turned into a slave for life with fewer protections than other slaves, or nearly beaten/whipped to death, charged a fine couldn't possibly pay, or assets seized. Heck, in most cases even low class nobles would consider attacking a high class noble to be suicidal with the loss and/or ruination of assets, land, nobility, life, and possibly family almost a given.
Also, seems maid was completely wrong about Anon. Hiring thugs to rape his fiance, especially after breaking their engagement, just to make it easier to break up with her and have a convenient excuse yet not seeing anything wrong with doing so? They've known each other for years, is friends with the girl he wants to marry, and being raped would've ruined the MC's life. In this type of society the fact she was a victim tends to be overlooked and more time spent adding insult to injury by blaming her for not being able to protect her virginity, would greatly lower her value in potential marriage prospects, high chance of mental trauma that could extend to becoming gynophobic, and possibly result in getting pregnant. Worst case she could be disowned by her family and exiled from the household. As for the rapists, I'm not sure if would just get the usual time for raping a woman, or if family would push for additional punishment or for things to get settled quickly and quietly to avoid the disgrace further smearing the family name.
