So how is Naori carrying around ice? Doesn't look like she has some kind of insulation method to keep it from melting...

So we had Naori protecting Hinata last chapter--now, Hinata protects (or wishes to protect) Naori. Hinata refuses to be one-upped when it comes to caring for her SO! Also more Naori drinks to save the day!

Mikage needs all the help she can get. She's not learned to think for herself yet. Unfortunate. Luckily, Naori is such a friendly and attentive person that she seems able to inspire and befriend ogre and human alike.

It really is Naori and Hinata vs an entirely archaic and regimented way of thinking and behaving. Pretty much everyone they meet, human or orge, is suffering to maintain a status quo that was settled so long ago. It really is a battle against traditionalist thinking, and they're the two nails sticking out, while everyone tries to hammer them back down.

So good. I'm loving the progress so far. The way Mikage guides Naori's hand to her face (as I interpret it) as a sign of willingness to obey. I find it very charming.

I hope the path the author will choose is for Naori to go around charming ogres per arc. It will be nice to see the ogres charmed by Naori.
Thank you so much for the translation; you're all awesome!

quick question: aside from eating human (which I assume was something orges did), what horrible things did orges to that justify enslaving them for thousand of years and possibly forever?

anw, thanks for the chapter
They aren't human. That is one big reason. Humans fear the different and powerful. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Naori, watching Mikage down that rusty nail : But it's 40% alcohol.
My sister and I, reading this : amateurs 😒.

Pulling a bottle of arranged rhum (55%) from our very own Caribbean tanuki

It's from our worst milage, so you'll have to excuse us if it's a little soft 🥲

not the answer I was looking for. Anyone can say something vague, but I'm looking for detailed reasons.

The characters keep hinting that orges are terrible, but without any actual examples.

and they keep trying to maintain the master-slave between human-orges without explaining why the status should be kept. If anything, the slaves (orges) should be fighting against it, but from the last arc, we see that not only do they not fight against it, they actively work to keep it??

The story is based on the legend and tales of Shuten-Doji (Mikage, for example, is referred to as Ibaraki-Doji, which I understand is a player loyal to Shuten-Doji in the tales, etc). It's Japanese so I don't think they feel the need to fill their target audience in on the common history of Oni and specifically the figures they are based on. I also don't feel the need for specifics beyond that because having read a lot of manga about the tales of oni, I can also imagine what they did in the past.

As for "not fighting against it," I think my earlier comment partially discusses that. To put it simply: they are upholding traditions that have been in place for some time and have allowed a comfortable status quo to form, and they all seem to fear what breaking that status quo might cause. They don't imagine that the grass is greener.

I will do some research on this, thanks.

yeah I get this

what I don't get is this. Logically I fail to see why revoting against human can be bad. However, we haven't seen what exactly can the human do to the orges (other than the drinking curse), so maybe I should be patient for now.

Well, probably what keeps us humans from rebelling against other humans; violence, lots of violence.

We don't know the actual details of the deal between humans and the ogres and we don't know who enforces the deal and how. If, say, governments are involved, rebelling may well spell the end of the ogres, regardless of whatever fighting prowess they may have.

What can ogres do to humans tho? The drinking curse literally keeps them weak, they literally CANT get their power ups without a human's assistance and the humans only give them enough to be "comfortable"

It's fine, ballsack Tanuki has the high ground.

I love p1, this mangaka draws some insanely well composed images
