The tone of this gives me the sense that we might get to explore this mismatch between MC and the world he is in a bit more than your typical isekai, so here's to hoping for more of that

Yeah, usually the MC just feels bad for a page or two and then instantly forgets about his past family once he reincarnated.

He kinda reminds me of Rudeus from Mushoko Tensei (without the added weirdness), where even after reincarnating he still has to deal with the problems from his past life.

I’ll say to his defense, that was a paltry amount of water compared to what a fire hose can shoot out so it’s understandable he wasnt impressed. The other thing to consider is up until his mom used her ice magic, he probably had only ever seen small scale magic like the laundry stuff

Nah mate i agree with you. Most of the time them being reincarnated doesnt even matter in the end and could easily be rewritten without it
