The movie is dog shit compared to the manga, completely loses the internal consistency for how the time travel works or how to break out of the loop. Manga on the other hand is far better in that regard, ending is far better too.

The film is not based on the manga. It's based on the light novel, which is also what this manga adaptation is based on.
