Okay, that makes sense. As a music nerd I read "heavy distorted guitars" and found the other bands mentioned but not Yohila.

The genre was no where near as heavy as I had hoped. Oh well.
Yeah I figured as much the moment I saw what kind of guitar she had lol

The guitar bag and genre they were talking about had me curious for a while only for her to pull out a telecaster. It's always a goddamned telecaster. Why do the Japanese love telecasters so damn much?

Jangly teles and strats, edge-of-breakup tones with minimal gain, and melodic riffs without a lot of the elements we would call "heavy" in the west are kind of a signature of Japanese rock. From what I've heard so far, utsu rock seems to lean a bit more into sliiiightly more gain and power chords instead of purely melodic lines, but still has a very similar kind of almost pop-rock feel. It's "heavy" in the same way that Incubus is "heavy" .

So like, girl are you really gonna turn your nose up to light music and then go and pull out a telecaster?
Like, I know I'm ribbing too much on the tele; it's a perfectly fine instrument and it's not like you can't play heavy music on one. But it's such a huge stereotype that her being pedantic about it is a bit funny.

And yeah idunno this series seems kinda self-indulgent so far in a "look how cultured I am" kinda way, but I guess I'm curious enough to hang around for at least a few chapters at least and see where this pairing goes.

i'm certain she's one of the yohila band members and she's trying to prove that he's not a real fan because he hasn't recognized her. that's why she also shows such a strong reaction when he mentions that band specifically. not that this changes anything from his perspective. i guess he's just too curious about a fellow utsu rock enjoyer to mind.

tbh this manga seems pretty well written so far. it hints at her being a band member multiple times without making it so obvious that the guy seems dense for not noticing immediately

same 😭

but then again, I'm used to listening to progdeath/techdeath:

progdeath:

techdeath (feat. saxophone) (technically this specific one is also progdeath...):

Ooooh very nice. I'm a Doom/Stoner/Sludge dude myself.

Stoner Death Doom

Death Doom

That being said I prefer my stuff a little less Death focused

She is not "one of the Yohila band members". Tee hee.
