For a moment there I was wondering if I was forgetting something, with how things started this chapter, but now we just had a bit of a sudden skip in time, before a nothing burger flashback. Also the MC's hair cut is generic as shit.

I know tropes become tropes because they're easy. And this trope has been done well (hello, Otonari no Tenshi-sama). But this one, where a teenage boy acts unaware of hair products advertised openly and widely where no one can miss them or like it's something they're somehow forbidden to use... even though it's a minor trope, it might be among the ones i hate most. There's almost never any story reason for it to exist. It's not funny, it doesn't provide drama, it just makes the ML look ignorant of his own society and irresponsible about himself.

They don't know. Their intent was to provide her with the best possible match so as to last past the reveal date, but they have no guarantee even even-tempered Youshin won't lose his shit when he finds out the truth. But they really didn't have much to work with -- idiot basketball senpai was one of their final cuts when scouring the school for candidates, after all -- so they can only support then for now and hope this guy has a strong enough character to handle that hit and still want to stay the course.

And, yeah, that's them being supportive.

Also the haircut is bad because the mangaka doesn't draw ears, or rather, designed the characters in this manga to have their ears hidden, look at how hair covers ears on every other character in the salon,
