For a spin-off story, this is pretty amazing. It feels as canon as the main story.

It isn't a stretch for me to say that this is a markedly better story than the main story. I still like that one, but this one is just a better paced tale with a tighter cast that feels more natural.

I saw people saying it was "darker", but I don't think it is actually dark. A lot of that was still there in the margins of the original but glossed over. There are challenges, but they feel more satisfying in this one.

Luxion be like that super rich/powerful friend wingman that tries to ship both you and that girl you've been unconsciously going for. In a way, he's basically kinda like Marie and Leon's child at this point lol, an OP child at that and doesn't want his parents separating.

That wording about their past though, I wonder if that has any meaning in the future. Maybe this isn't their first rodeo or something considering this is an otome game which should have multiple routes as a feature which means there may be multiple Leons or something kinda like parallel worlds. Maybe this is NG+ for that secret true route, that's pretty common on VNs lol.

Right? In the original story, she was just bratty. In here, she is much more complicated, which makes her a lot more likable and sympathetic. Now I see why she is really popular among the fans of the series.

By extension, I will look at her differently in the main story too.

Indeed. Her behavior is a lot different later on in the main storyline. She and Leon have a much better relationship.

Admittedly, I only skimmed volume 4 because all I could find were MTL which made my head hurt, but it didn't really feel dark? I mean, it's definitely darker than the main story, but the main story is light to the point where opposition is almost meaningless. There are certainly not-nice things that happen, but they seem to be in the bounds of a regular story?

Then again, maybe I'm judging "dark" according to the standards of the grimderp stuff. That's probably too high of a bar.
