controllers have advanced quite a bit tho. instead of using sticks to move your camera and relying on aim assist, you can use a feature that most modern console controllers have (gyro), this allows you to act like you're using a camera to aim in the game. splatoon (while not a pc game) makes good use of this

of course this doesnt make controller better than kbm, it just puts it to the same level as kbm if you're willing to put the effort to learn it

this guy probably couldve gotten used to playing console more than pc so he preferred using controllers more than kbm

I don't really watch pro gamer or play apex in particular, but a lot of vtuber that I know prefer using controller because it was "easier to aim". but again "easier to aim" can be read as better aim assist or because they are more used to it or can be both.

if what you mean is the Nora Cat glitch, it really is a hilarious glitch but as far as I know (read: take it with load of salt) the reaction was just like what happen in this story, no one feel "deceived" and they instead got more interested on the guy behind it.
