Nope, not getting it. For a moment I thought Shorts was infected with the plague too, and seeking to doom a different country to join the Commoner and Slave, but it doesn't look right either. Maybe the message is only legible to the author?
I hope Hamita sticks to writing shorter stories with tighter focus.

I stopped following this a while ago because nothing was happening so I have no clue about the infection/disease stuff or why the kingdom is doomed, but I'm 99% sure the hammer is a morbid joke that harken back to the level of jokes at the start of this manga. Slave expects to be treated roughly so being woken up by a hammer to the head is par for the course for her.

Thanks for the TL, lacking as it might be. Wonder what happened to Bubblorium, they were so close to finishing.

Looking at the raws on twitter, the conversation that starts on page 3 might be better translated:
"That's a nice sword, mister"
"Hm,"

p.4:
"Oh, it belongs to the castle I used to serve"
"Wh-, hey! An honorable knight wouldn't flee his country, would he?"
"Even as a knight, I have no intention of dying"
"Give me a break... I don't want any trouble, no matter how much you pay me, okay?"
"It won't be a problem"
"You say that, but those are some awful bags under your eyes"
"These are just from insomnia. I used to get hit in the head with a hammer, so I can't really fall asleep anymore"
"...I'm not gonna ask... But what do you mean, 'It won't be a problem'?"
"Because that country will soon be destroyed."
"Destroyed? How do you know that?"

p.5:
"Because that country caught the attention of a strange slave"
"......The hell?"
[This world
is not so forgiving that one can survive while living for others.
For people like me,
the best we can do is to live for ourselves.]

p.6:
[Farewell,
leather-shoed slave of the one-legged knight
I pray for a world where people are rewarded for living for others.]
Note: <When you wake up please hit me awake with this.>

Interesting implication that the knight in shorts used to be a slave before, given his common experience with being woken with a hammer, and that it's actually common for slaves to be woken up this way...

Thanks for the MTL dude. You did an okay job. I really wanted to see this short story through, regardless of scan quality so I’m grateful to you.

The ending is pretty much a sad one. The knight being dead and the slave being in denial. Possibly suicidal since she asks the knight to hit her with a hammer when he wakes up, which won’t happen. However, the words the insomniac knight says at the end “This kingdom is in the grip of a strange slave” and “this kingdom will be destroyed” could be interpreted in different ways. One is the knight the slave carried had a plague and taking into consideration how far she carried it probably spread as mentioned previously. The other option is that the slave starts a revolution that will destroy the current kingdom. Seeing how in a roundabout way it was the nobility that killed the knight. We also do know that the slave is strangely talented is several different skills learned from previous masters so we could use that as more evidence.

Okay I read the Indonesian translation, and this is more or less what I get:

What people said is correct, its not "the kingdom is in a grip of ""strange boy"", but rather a ""strange slave"". Likely refer to plague / infection that people here says.

Slave said she will not sleep and will keep pray for Commoner recovery, but if its too late then she'll go to sleep so she hopes the commoner to wake her up. I think this means the slave is starting to accept the reality that the commoner is dead, so she hopes to be waken up in afterlife by the commoner to that they can do the usual routine again in afterlife.

Swordman basically sort of turned his life around, he lives only for himself all this time but seeing the slave relationship with commoner makes him think that he wants to live for others sake as well.

The hammer basically just slave's last desperate hope that commoner can wake up again and do their usual wacky routine again.

can anyone explain ending to me
sure. the line "the kingdom is in the grip of a strange boy" most likely has been mistranslated and actually meant, "the kingdom's fate is in the hands of a strange slave." this translation implies that the fate of the kingdom rests on the slave's hands. but how so? because she's carrying a literal vessel of the plague because of her denial. this also explains why the guy with insomnia thinks that the kingdom is about to collapse, because the plague will start spreading as a result of the slave's actions.

This mangaka and that screenwriter for the psycho piss anime should get together, live under a bridge, and shag hard. They might be able to produce an actual real life troll.

the insomniac guy said he got hit with a hammer. How does this connect to the slave's hammer?
Basically, it serves to imply that the knight used to either be a slave, or in some servant role (rather than like, it just being domestic abuse or something), which helps fill out his speech where he compares himself with the slave.

Both the knight and the slave were in subservience situations (potentially also slavery in his case). To better his own situation, he sought riches, but in seeking them he became someone who only lived for himself. In contrast, she decided to keep on living as a slave, but in doing so she was able to live her life for others. At the end he somewhat laments his choice, because what he really wants is that bond she was able to get from living for others, rather than just being rich+solitary like he is.

It's probably even worse, he probably got the plague or some shit like that, so the slave, the young lady and everyone they've encountered on their way back are probably infected too. That's why the guy who killed the cat said that the kingdom is doomed. Or maybe I did get it at all and i'm wrong. Well, who cares ?
To support this, remember how the water people weren't actually getting sick from the water? Wells are often sealed like that when they're the source of a sickness, which is how that cult likely came to be.

Hmm, not a very convincing "lesson" from Hamita given how the slave and commoner ended up.

I need an explanation too.

Like, obviously Slave is in denial about Commoner dying. He was probably near dead when the insomniac knight looked at him several chapters ago, hence why he didn't bother killing him. But I don't understand what he was saying at the end.

"The kingdom is in the grip of a strange boy" ??
My best guess is that the commoner is dead, and slave is in denial and/or planning revenge. The knight who left them alive realized commoner was already long gone, and he admires slaves loyalty. He defected and seems almost jealous that slave had someone she could serve so faithfully. He even says he hopes he can find someone who will appreciate his service.

So I guess Knight realized the people he was working for were trash and defected as he had no intention of stopping slaves revenge. As for the whole insomnia and being hit with a hammer thing, I have no clue. Maybe Knight used to be a slave also and was hit with a hammer when he was trying to fall asleep? I really don't know.

It felt like the writer started with goofy slave who took pride in being a slave, got bored and made her actually really tough and added some drama, then didn't know how to end it.
