I'm going to be "that guy" and say it: FF7 was... meh. Uninteresting characters (mostly, unfortunately, the main protagonist and antagonist)), leading to a pretty boring story, outdated combat system, annoying Materia system, some of the summons took WAY too long, technically very limited by the hardware, ugly pre-rendered environments with overly long loading times (love how Evoland made fun of that). I admit the soundtrack was great, though. I still haven't met anyone IRL who actually likes FF7 if they played the older games on the SNES before.

Also, "business" trip, of course... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@Shrimpy Well, actually I'm one of those guy who didn't like FFVII. Even though for me when I finish the game for the first time as a 6th grader kid, I don't quite understand the whole story (I'm not native English, so my English at that time are below average), but by looking at the MC (Cloud) he is the main problem for me. Ever since a kid, I don't really like MC who EMO, EDGY, and someone similar to that traits. So, FFVII and FFVIII isn't for me at all. And finally we got happy go lucky MC in FFIX, I love that game so much. Yes, the story pretty cliche, but at least the element of ROMANCE, ADVENTURE, FANTASY in FFIX are quite high, so its a fun adventure for me at that time.

Then when in Middle school, I finally play Crisis Core FFVII, and I fucking love the characters in that game, especially the main character. A lot better than EMO shit FFVII MC. Maybe the reason why people don't rec play Crisis Core first, its for people who didn't like MC EMO personality/traits, will shit talking when playing FFVII after playing Crisis Core, because they already in love with Crisis Core MC.. LoL..

Also, I feel like Advent Children really ruined peoples' view on Cloud. He's not really emo or edgy in FF7 at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure Vincent is way more like that than Cloud is, but it's been a while since I played the game now

Then again, if someone completely hates on an RPG just because of the MC, even though it has multiple other great characters with unique personalities, then I guess there's not much more to say

@Grading: I never got the vibe he was emo or edgy. He always felt like a guy who finally got time to grieve after everything that happened. Not just Aerith's death, but his position as a doll, his fake memories, all of it. That's too much for any one guy to bear and he never really had time to just heal from it. Hearing that the FFVII compilation is supposed to go into the Remake, it makes me wonder if that will be portrayed when they tell the Advent Children story part.

I played Dirge of Cerberus as my first FF game. I honestly had fun playing it. Don't remember why, maybe it's because I thought Vincent's demon form looked cool?

Crisis Core was my 2nd FF game and I fell in love, even shed manly tears at the end. Not a fan of turn-based games then so I never really picked up the other ones.
Probably gonna pick up FF7 Remake and Doom Eternal once the price goes down.
