Be able to download covers for manga

If downloading covers isn't in the category of "allowed but not encouraged", perhaps a labeled download link in the lightbox or whatever method of cover view is in the next version wouldn't be remiss. It would be beneficial for those who are enthusiastic but not techy.

It looks like at least Chrome for Android's "long press" doesn't have the same image-under-transparent-element awareness that desktop browsers have, in which case the "download link" option on the thumbnail is the only way

That's the currently active cover, which has nothing over it whatsoever. The covers in the gallery are not accessible on mobile while in lightbox mode

@axelthegreat IMO I don’t think we should have to go to ANOTHER SITE to be able to get something from here, plus if someone doesn’t know about Bookwalker (it’s not something as widely known like Raid Shadow Legends), it’s no help to them.

One of the main goals of Mangadex is to beat out aggregator sites, which don’t give credit where credits due. If aggregator sites let you download them and MD doesn’t... that’s bad.

I probably have hundreds of manga covers from the times where I did use those sites from way before I discovered Batoto (after Batoto’s death I moved here; Rest in Peace Sweet Child), because they put the high-def cover of the manga volume as the first page of every chapter. I don’t want to go back to those sites, and I’m not afraid to admit it.

And I haven’t even heard of Vivaldi before today. So it isn’t crazy that people use browsers that we haven’t even heard of that get tripped up by the invisible sheet covering the lightroom image.

I miss being able to change your username every 30 days back in the Batoto days.

Don't go into lightbox mode while on mobile?
Long-press the low res thumbnails in cover gallery, and then open in new tab.
This works on Samsung browser for Android, I can get to the full res cover.. One extra step. That, I know...

Edit: Btw, OP seems to seek a way to download on desktop.. So, what browser are you using that isn't able to download it, @JustNatsuki? This is still unanswered..

I mean, you don't need to tell ME that. I've already mentioned that solution back in the previous page. It's just that the divide between what the link does when clicked normally and where it leads on paper might be a bit much for a non-techy person. It would vastly simplify this for everybody on every platform if there were a clearly marked link.

Edit responding to your edit: JustNatsuki has already been helped. I think their problem was that their main method of saving things was "drag to desktop", which maybe has a few issues if what you're dragging is an image that is also a link (or an invisible link covering an image, in the case of the lightbox itself)

@MrIncognito The divide as you call it is a gaping chasm to me.

I consider myself a pretty techy person, I’ve taken apart entire computers and put them back together before. I would not know how to do this before I made this thread, and neither would most other people.

@phoenix_ed I use MD both on Desktop and Mobile, I just used desktop as an example in the original post. I use Safari most of the time when I’m on mobile.

That ain’t one step. You also need to add the steps in finding this thread and getting the info. Open a new tab, Google Search, scroll down, click on mangadex result, scroll down, go to next page, that’s already 6 steps not including your one step. If they can’t find this thread, well, it’s gonna be 10+ steps.

A button literally makes it from 7 steps to one.

I’m just asking for a creaky wooden bridge to make the chasm crossable, it shouldn’t be that hard nor that much of an ask

Not really techy(though I'm not sure of the definition of techy), but I just fumbled around and do know how I could get the original res cover images before this thread. (Yeah, that's just me, I know)
I only uses desktop though, if I'm gonna download cover images.. So, I did not know the mobile side of things. (Only just now)
That being said, a download button of course will be a lot direct & easy. That, I don't disagree.

What? I DIDN'T MENTION ANYTHING to go to another website. I was comparing MD with BW and CR's Manga. What a nonsense. And yet you're suggesting MD to use imgur? What's wrong with you?

Well, that's your problem, not mine. I don't care, MD already has their own servers, it's like saying: "hey, youtube, isn't it pretty cool to upload thumbnail of videos on imgur gallery link?"
