Lmao. You're blind if you don't see that this is the "same tired genre tropes slapped into new bodies."

Why did I just discovered this manga? A great read. The story has its ups and downs - early school chapters are at its strongest, as it plays with the (uncanny) world's dynamics. The current independent-living chapters seems to still have a lot of facet of stories to cover, so I'll reserve my judgement after the mangaka actually shows how it will all get tied together. I'm quite confident in her work, though. 10/10 for now.

Yes yes, you guys who are tired of reading this manga can just stop. I see no point in complaining about it here. It's not even a discussion. Complain to the author go to twitter or something.

so i'm on the haru kidnap arc...which isn't very good...& hoping it improves
essentially tho this is just one of those 'highschool romantic dramas' but with the gimmick of them all being animals. the dynamics between carnivores, herbivores, cats & dogs & whatever are interesting but it's nothing new. you can just watch animal planet

edit: dropped lmao

This manga is actually good and no, contrarians can't prove otherwise, the whole story is a fucking metaphor
People eat JoJo's shit up and think it is actually good while a manga like this that purely plays with symbolism to the extreme, I dare say this manga can actually be compared to fucking BERSERK just because of how the characters present the expected turmoil behind the society and their own shortcomings.

This manga is excellent. Tarouza from Doubutsu no Kuni and Legosi would have a lot to talk about together.

"This whole arc has been the most stupid shit I've seen in a modern manga. I can practically see the editor reaching his grubby fingers into the story to try to change what it is so it's more generic and wide-appealing like the scum he probably is. Nobody gives a shit about this Melon character, they're poorly written with no real motivations and have done nothing to make the story more interesting."

Melon's one hell of a foil for Legosi and the other hybrid characters we've seen so far, and raises the massive (and unasked until his appearance) question of "if we really go through with this, is that how our kid(s) are going to turn out?" for all the potential interspecies couples in the story.

He doesn't really have to have much of a character to be a catalyst for Legosi, Haru, Louis, and Juno to be prodded into thinking through some really difficult questions about what the hell they're actually doing, and if it's going to end anything like well. Until he showed up, the main question their relationships presented was "am I going to lose it and eat my lover?" or "is my lover going to lose it and eat me?". Those have been pretty thoroughly answered, and the new question Melon brings in is definitely worth having an arc about.

He makes the story far more interesting just by his presence in it, but I'll be very glad to see him leave, hopefully in a bodybag.

"you can just watch animal planet"

I can't watch
a deer leading a pride of lions
on Animal Planet. Personally, I think it's playing with a lot of its concepts interestingly.

But, you do you.

@YGSITH

"the whole story is a fucking metaphor"

Strangely, one of the things I really like about Beastars is that it doesn't ride its metaphors too hard. Given some of the stuff it's working with, it'd be very easy to hamfistedly run the metaphors into the ground for the sake of making some point.

"People eat JoJo's shit up and think it is actually good..."

That's comparing apples and oranges. You don't say a pizza's a bad apple pie - it's not trying to be an apple pie. You don't say an apple pie's a bad pizza - it's not trying to be a pizza.

They're both enjoyable, depending on whether you're looking for a desert or a main dish.

I had a furry phase when I was in 6th grade, We don't talk about that nasty phase. So I moved on from that phase and I'm in 11th grade now, I am ashamed of that phase so I was reluctant to give this a try I was thinking......eww because it reminded me of my weird ass phase back in middle school. But a week ago I finally gave in and read the first 10 chapters. And long story short this is my 5th time rereading it. Seriously give it a try I find it amazingmaybe cuz I was a furry? Idk but WOW

This is pretty much a much deeper and much darker version of Zootopia which will make you question existence. It can’t be stated how good this is, read it ASAP it’s amazing

@EaterOfBooks It seems I have to be CRYSTAL FUCKING CLEAR when I mentioned "jojo's shit up" and by that I meant the ongoing and tiresome exposition and monologue the characters go through every 2 pages while Araki redcons what happened 3 pages ago. Beastars uses concepts, doesn't use them as the hard hitter but as a guideline and the story flexibly works with it through simple changes of a basic yet solid concept, Jojo doesn't have that, you try to read about stands and character actions or motivations and it's like stepping on water and then BOOM the ocean and then you are in the surface again and now you step on water and AGAIN UNDER THE SEA. Do I have to make it even more clear on what I meant?

This isn't a zero-sum game where one series has to be absolutely superior to the other.

I love Beastars, and think it's definitely one of the best currently-running manga I read - it is nailing its themes and character drama in a way few other series even bother attempting. I like certain parts of Jojo's, and can honestly say it's the only manga that's ever gotten me to stand up and try to actually do the poses the characters are doing because they're so damn ridiculous. Frankly, the issues you're pointing out with Jojo's don't matter to my enjoyment of it, because I'm just there for the spectacle, which that series delivers on in spades. It's a bad apple pie, but a pretty good pizza, as I said. Beastars is a good apple pie, but a very mediocre pizza at best. Or maybe they're the other way around?

just question about being a furry since i am kinda curious
do you consider yourself a furry because you get turned on by anthropomorphic animals or because you want to look like one or you just like to watch some furry shows like mickey mouse and such

@me474, keep in mind 6th grade,, I was 11. Also neither, I just generally enjoyed drawing people with- well paws, ears, snouts, tails. Also they always had clothes on btw cuz cmon 6th grade. I'm looking into a career in art and most of my drawing skills such as color theory, anatomy and shading as well as being able to handle textures all came from drawing so much furries. Also I didn't many cartoons as a kid but I was always interested in speedpaints of furry characters. So I think a lot of these factors positively impacted me as a person. Everyone seems to think furries are just horny people these days. Here's the thing though 80% of the furry community are just kids goofing and having a good time. The other 20% should get banished tho lmao.

idk many people are very kinky in the internet from young age that's why i asked about that
and it can't be helped it , that my first exposure to the fandom was the news of tony the tiger.
thanks for the information furry were always a curious case to me and since the definition is just drawing anthropomorphic animals doesn't walt disney qualify to be a one yet no one accuse him of being a furry just because he is famous and successful
