The second I read the end. I knew people in comments would be having a fit lol.
So. I understand the surprise of her statement. It threw me off too and I think it's way too soon. But, more time may have passed than we think (the comic to me did a bad job at it).
When her kingdom was taking over and she was made into a slave. It was a war. He should have killed her like what was suggested, but he took pity on her and kept her alive. Redhead treated her terribly, so did the soldiers, ML didn't (People can argue he did threaten to kill her and put her head up on display. Again. It was war and he didn't. Still not 100% excusable, but I think that should be taking out of the equation of his "jerkiness").
Now.. the whole threatening to kill her if she couldn't save the horse is another story. I don't think that was a good re-introduction of the characters. I think the author did a terrible job at that. Since the author tried to "redeem" the ML a little by his tragic backstory, only to make him a jerk again.
So far I like Chloe and I don't hate the ML. I think he was made to be "misunderstood" but I agree the author isn't doing a great job so far in making him 100% redeemable, but I don't hate him.
I'm looking forward to reading more and thanks to the crew for posting! Keep up the good work.

Seriously? No baby, this dude is garbage. If you're an enemy, you die. If you fail, you die. If you touch him in a way he doesn't like, and don't have the social standing to stay his hand, you die.

No. The dude sucks. No, he isn't the same level of garbage as his father, but he's a chip off the old block.
Like really girl, after living two lives with a fair amount of hardship, you shouldn't be this naive. Is it the "but I can fix them" feeling that people feel towards others that they've grown infatuated with? I hope not. Really, besides him, his father, and that red haired guy, I'd take almost anyone else or take my chances running away.

Lmao, I love this Clara chick. I hope the author doesn't end up making her dislikeable later on. Also, as for the ML hate in the comments, he is quite dislikeable. However, war is very cruel and so are medieval hierarchies, I would be astonished if he had a healthy attitude towards life given the circumstances. I think the author would benefit from further elaboration on that though, I suspect they are trying to keep things lighthearted but that reads as unrealistic with backgrounds as dark as these.
