The initial use of "literature" in this context was about written works of merit or quality, not strictly "the written word." Few comics are strictly visual with no written component, anyway, so you're just being pedantic. Calling the comparison "overcompensation" only makes sense if you view comic books as having less intrinsic value/merit/whatever than regular books.1) I'm not putting a dividing line between the merit of the two, I'm distinguishing the two
"Quality is subjective" is a truism. Saying comics "are what you make of them" is just a deflection when brought up without prompting while discussing something inherently subjective.2) He's not claiming there's some measure of objectivity to art-- I'm the one that implies that in my previous comment. He attacks the archetypal "quality is subjective" phrase with no qualification.
Either way, I agree with that poster that this is edgy. It's not because it's a revenge story or deals with dark subject matter, but because of the over-the-top way it presents it. Edgy doesn't necessarily mean bad, though. However, so far I don't care much about the Princess since her behavior's all over the place and I don't have a good feel for her as a person beyond wanting revenge.
