1) I'm not putting a dividing line between the merit of the two, I'm distinguishing the two
The initial use of "literature" in this context was about written works of merit or quality, not strictly "the written word." Few comics are strictly visual with no written component, anyway, so you're just being pedantic. Calling the comparison "overcompensation" only makes sense if you view comic books as having less intrinsic value/merit/whatever than regular books.
2) He's not claiming there's some measure of objectivity to art-- I'm the one that implies that in my previous comment. He attacks the archetypal "quality is subjective" phrase with no qualification.
"Quality is subjective" is a truism. Saying comics "are what you make of them" is just a deflection when brought up without prompting while discussing something inherently subjective.

Either way, I agree with that poster that this is edgy. It's not because it's a revenge story or deals with dark subject matter, but because of the over-the-top way it presents it. Edgy doesn't necessarily mean bad, though. However, so far I don't care much about the Princess since her behavior's all over the place and I don't have a good feel for her as a person beyond wanting revenge.

...or if I perceive the party making that comparison as having-- and trying to combat against-- that kind of feeling, themselves.

Saying comics "are what you make of them" is just a deflection when brought up without prompting while discussing something inherently subjective.
What prompted me saying that, was the notion of "high quality literature" and how confusing such a phrase was to understand in context.

Someone saying a work is "high quality" doesn't mean anything to another consumer if said other consumer can't at minimum justify taking time from their life to consume the work, and can't get anything out of it (thus, "comics are what you make of them"). The phrase "this isn't high quality literature" by itself is meaningless, and he gave that sentiment twice without contextualizing.

Put another way, just imagine that my initial comment to @panzerkampfwagyu was "...and?"

Honestly, I think just posting that would have gotten my point across a lot better than the diatribe I did post.

Might just be another dumb and edgy revenge story, but the art is great, gruesome enough, and the MC McTwofacey is hot.
Very interesting and fun if you ask me.
Also it might just end up more interesting than what we'd assume.
Thanks a lot for the translation!

Hmm, so it's an edgy revenge story with some fun facial expressions.
No high expectations for any quality content, so I probs shouldn't continue it, but the funny faces let me stay I guess
It's an edgy revenge story with nice art and amazing facial expressions. The writing isn't bad, either, though there's nothing remarkable about it so far. Sticking around for the funny faces, gratuitous shocks, and feminist edge in the hope that a story worth reading develops in the long run.

Hmmm...yeah I'm not feeling this one. Unfortunate but at least it's got some people excited.

Thanks for the translation (that suburashii smile looked awful on the princess).

Okay, I laughed way too hard at what happened to him and his guards. I just hope letting him live doesn't come back to haunt her. At least remove his tongue and put him in a gimp mask...

... What? Too edgy? I say practical.
