I think the art and characters are cute enough that it being a misunderstanding based story is honestly fine. She's soooo damn cute and expressive, and the protagonist has a good attitude.

Too many of these stories have shit like 'oh I'm unworthy of her oh she could never like me that's impossible' blah blah, but he's like "I love her! I will become worthy of her!" He might not have the highest self-esteem but he isn't your regular shitty manga protag, imo.

She's also not being intentionally obscure or sending mixed signals on purpose, or treating him like garbage and being like 'why won't you love me???' is the other big thing. It's totally believable there are communication issues here.

Ok, I'm invested. While I normally really dislike misunderstandings and miscommunications (ESPECIALLY, if cast is adult) here it makes sense and is adorable.

I mean, the whole premise is great. They are in arranged marriage (though both very much like each other) in what seems to be higher classes families, at least her side, so the guy actually tries to officially court her and is genuinely learning savoir vivre and Kyoto customs for her. She on the other hand is sick and tired of always being prim and let's loose around him and doesn't care at all about that without him knowing and just also relies on assumptions or is too embaressed to make things clear . Shenanigans ensues

People from Kyoto have a reputation for always speaking with double meanings, like what he was talking about with the tea thing, although the tea thing is specifically an old thing that Kyoto restaurants would do when someone was staying too long. Usually I feel the misunderstandings thing is overdone and contrived, but so far by chapter 2 at least the misunderstandings feel at least mostly realistic in the circumstance

On the other note - I guess kyoto-ben is really hard to preserve in translation. Kept guessing where are the parts in text that can be misunderstood.

I wonder how one would translate "Bless his heart" from US Southern English to Japanese. It's ambiguous and has many different meanings, some sarcastic.

Example usages:

1. He's just a little slow, bless his heart.
2. I think he's a child molester, bless his heart.

I don't think Google translate gets it right for sure. The two above when translated and then translated back are:

1. He's just a bit slow, thank goodness.
2. I think he's a pedophile, bless you.

I think at this point she could send a nude selfie to him and when our boy mentions it to her if she said "I'm so glad you got it" he'd think she meant it for someone else.

Normally it's frustrating when these are just miscommunication messes, but in making miscommunication the central theme the problem is circumvented altogether. Brilliant.

This has a lot of potential, hopefully the author can keep it from getting stale. At least the characters both know what they want.
