You only use 'kun' with males, right? So that means Kishi is a dude?

These "tall, handsome" characters are getting more androgynous every year. I was going towards female, given they even had a rounded chest in one panel, but ah, whatever.

That panel is Miyuki, not Kishi.

I can see this manga getting an anime in the future and becoming successful
I honestly think the Kyoto dialect to cause misunderstandings is a great gimmick, the dorks are adorable and the art is really cute. The only thing that could become an issue is how the gimmick holds up in the long run
It just needs to gain a little bit more traction somehow, just enough to catch the eye of a studio

this kind of story always had its audience, and easy (in terms of budget) to adapt too. remind me of Komi Cant Communicate, another light Rom Com.
the problem is the gimmick is a dialect, and same-sounding word with different meaning, so TL-ing the actual dialogue into subtitle or even dub wont make it obvious why it cause misunderstanding in the first place unless they put footnotes

i think the author is making all these lack of communication problems, and they dont expressing what they are feeling to on a important moment this dont happen, to make a subversion of expectation
I'm been thinking about the "lack of communication" problem in romcom. But I'm sure is more of a cultural difference with Japan/Asia, they aren't as expressive as other country's, plus they seriously lack emotional understanding.
So for what us looks like a "isn't communicating properly" type bullshit, for the author may be "This is peak social interaction".

at least now it is getting better on the misunderstanding (i guess), i can't blame him too much seeing as how she react with a little bit of provocation that wans't mc idea, imagine if he was more bold and kissed her there? it would need 5 chapters for them to talk again hahahah

Sorry but this is really shitty. I dont like either of these characters, they keep avoiding their problems and makes it hard to root for them.

Technically, you can use "kun" for girls too.
"Kun" in fact is very similar to "chan", being used as informal suffix. with the differences is that "chan" is more intimate than "kun".
The reason the words are kind segerate by gender is more about the relationship dynamic between man and woman than language rules.
For example: Girls tend to be more intimate to other girls so they use "chan" for each other and "kun" for boys.
