not gonna lie, I wasn't having a good afternoon, and goddamn what a good way to end the day, Sorapoyo's defense finally falling to Prez absolutely loveliness

The magic these two have comes from their own foundations as characters, theyre not empty vessels so that the virgin reader can slip into and be like "HE JUST LIKE ME FR!!!" thinking that they could too have gotten that young love.
It works because Prez and Sora value the same things and walk the same roads, Sora is proactive, he has friends, he would be getting mad puss if he didnt have a bad case of the one-itis. And his drive to help others isnt born from "Hes nice" its born from the loss of his brother.
Similarly the meme of "why does the girl like the dude- cuz hes nice" while valid here, goes further, Prez already was infatuated with her misterious trialing prince, then she started to like Sora a bit, THEN SHE FOUND OUT HE AND THE PRINCE WERE ONE AND THE SAME, it works, its believable and justifies its existence, Prez couldnt get into any dude because she had a case of one-itis with the prince, Sora cant get with anyone cuz he too has a case of one-itis.
And theyre not fooling anyone, everyone can see it, except disabled kids XD.
The conflict with both is that they are accidents, Sora believes Prez is still looking for her prince, Prez thinks he still would pick Miya above everything else, so by both´s logics, they cant become a thing, someone else is meant for each other.
Its cute and I like seeing protagonists that arent empty vessels, Sora is genuinely a male readers should look up to.

the genuinely good boy in a romcom is always a well received archetype of MC (trope?)

Yea, the difference is other MCs are "nice" but it never feels like those characters are actually nice people; frequently it's a performative "nice" where you can tell the characters, or maybe the author too, have their motives in completely wrong places. Many times its a spiteful, even malicious-compliance sort of deal. To put it harshly, an incel kind of "nice".

Meanwhile Sora here has felt like an actually nice person. You get the feeling you would actually want to be friends with someone like him IRL unlike other "nice" MCs.
