I think we should be careful. While it seems reasonable to say that this was true in the past, I'm not sure Azuki spending several years hyper fixating on the "figurative" representation of her sexual desire for a person who she loved / loves has done her any good here.

I guess that Azuki is now worse at understanding Meguru as a person than when they were together due to the time apart, how they've changed, her inescapable trauma, and idolization of a Meguru that is by my account, only skin deep.

To be fair, that idolization of Meguru as a sexual icon wasn't exactly her fault (trauma / psychological issues), but in avoiding her trauma of Meguru the actual person who she loved, she has avoided the deeper connection (because that's what hurt her).

Thus, Azuki might not be fully capable of appreciating Meguru for who she is rather than what she represents now, ironically probably because of Meguru. Self fulfilling prophecy I guess.

If they tried and had patience and maybe professional help I'm sure they could get past that and recover but uh, looks unlikely.
