-"Why didn't he get first?!"
Sensei- "Who?"
-"Kyouya?!"
Sensei- "I guessed so"

This sensei is a fraud and an idiot. What is she even talking about? If you manage to get 100% on a test, the teacher wouldn't give a fucking F...

i'm sorry what?
"So his work was great but since it might be a fluke i'm not giving him the grade it deserves"
You can just fucking give him the grade he deserves on every project and if this one was a fluke the next one will get a worse grade. That's how grading works

What kind of retarded way of teaching is that? "If I can't assure it wasn't a coincidence then I will grade it lower." How the fuck are you gonna assure that? Give the man the grade he got or this is literally a violation in standards of school teaching. I'd understand if you'd suspect him of "cheating" or some bullshit so you can launch an investigation, but not giving the man a proper grade is like saying you're gonna deduct points on a test because you think they guessed on multiple choice test.
This is why fucking dramas are the lowest form of story telling. Because authors think they can pull some contrived reason out of nowhere with no basis/precedent in reality just to drum up drama. I dropped in to read a chapter to see what the manga is about and it's already got me riled up.

TL:DR don't read bullshit drama manga.

Woah woah woah guys. She said it got 3rd place. Grading is a different issue. Third place is still very likely an "A".

It was pretty confusing, but I think the sensei is trying to say that it was good overall, but specific aspects were lacking, and it was supposed to be a team project (y'know Japan and their group tendencies) but he basically did all the work.

Sensei point is to measure if it's a fluke or not.
He has great problem solving skill.
That only work if there is a problem.

She notes that he had camera issues and he made it work.
But if did not have that issue, could his original idea been better or worst?

Things worked out in his favor with the theme of time.as the photos are basiccally a glimps of time/memory.

So though she thought that is work was great. She could not give him points for a accident.

"Hey, your film was amazing and everyone loved it! But I don't trust you and think it was just a fluke! So, here's third place because I'm a terrible teacher who doesn't have the brains to realize that if it WAS just a fluke, then your next project won't be good!"

You grade/judge things off the the actual result, NOT off your misguided feelings that something is wrong. What if it was a math test that someone got 100% on? If she felt the student guessed at a couple answers, would she drop them to a 90%?

I like the series, but I would not want this woman as my teacher.

That credits page had me chortling.

I'm not against the third place rating. It softens the blow the team members felt about their personal quality, something that would be necessary if they weren't as hard-working and prideful as they are. It's a good tactical move as a teacher, not as a judge.

The thing about Art is that you, even as a genius artist, can't make masterpieces in succession, so if she thinks this was a fluke and the next time he does something and it doesn't hold a candle to the first one then it only strengthens her suspicion that it was a fluke.
Even studio Ghibli has its downs.
Good art doesn't just pop up out of nowhere as it needs some inspiration and a natural 20 roll on luck.
Most artists are just searching for that luck and that 1 unsuspecting masterpiece that propelled so many in that industry.

eeehh... I guess it's fair in it's own rights.

I've met far more worse and whimsical grading reasons than this. Plus it is an art school so I'm pretty sure it's gonna have that grading logic anyway.
