Seems like most of you saw this weapon coming, huh?
Though I believe if it's on a chain it's technically considered a sort of flail, not a morning star, it's always important to remember that Rudy's world is not ours, and she is not bound to such petty things as our history of warfare!

Next chapter is forecast for the start of November. Mado appears to be working on like four(?!) manga right now.
Also I think I've run out of fan art to put in the credits, so if you're an artist, now's your chance!

Still don't get how this doesn't have the same pullback problem as the sword
Because she outfitted him in armor with a very well padded glove part so he can catch it safely no matter what position its in and even if he misses he will be generally protected. Now if his helmet falls off again he could give himself a major injury but then that comes to skill in using it.

the only real downside is if he tangles himself up in chains and i can guess that is solved by his past as a fisherman throwing a net and training with the weapon.

he is throwing a (spiked) ball not a blade.
and was given armor like a catcher set to safely catch the ball.

the closest real world variant of this other than morning star (who have short chain for safety)
is the kusarigama, who are literally just big metal weight on a chain. it connected to a sickle that used for the close combat part.
but even a spikeless simple metal ball can give quite the damage if given proper velocity and its safer when you want to catch it back.

If it's on a chain that long, it's either an east asian rope weapon or fictional. If a head of a flail can swing back far enough to crush your fingers, then it's not a historical flail. European weapon names are often hybridized, like a glaive-guisarme-fauchard. If it's got spiked articulated head and can't hurt your fingers, it's called a morning star flail.

This is not a morning star flail, this is a chinese meteor hammer with a spiked head.
