So he was hexed. How did this happen? Surely it could have been a hidden artifact trap on one of his adventures and the caster is dead since eons, but that chance is pretty slim. It's more plausible, that it has been a killer. The doctor also stated, that he saw several of those cases. This means, curses are somebody's daily work in that town. I believe a specialist for hire. Now who could have gained any advantages to do that to him? It's always wise to look at your enemies first. And as far as gloating enemies goes, we already saw two. Those ex-party members of his.
So here it is, how it goes down:
I'd in his place return to that city, fabricate some fake evidence, that points at those two (not too conclusive though), 'interview' that doctor (first friendly, but as that guy is suspicious too, if he doesn't want to cooperate, I'd drop the friendly act) and talk with the healer chick, that seemed friendly enough, to swoon her away on my side (Ally gained back.).
I'd confront those bastard (without the healer chick and hero knowing it) and beat the truth out of them (as MC seems to be the stronger one).
[ul][*] If they confess, I'd make them confess the identity of the hexer too and pay that guy or organization a visit, rat them out to the kingdom or something for messing with me and others. If possible (and feasible) I'd also lay the same hex on the guilty former team mates. Hey, at least they know it's a curse! That's more than the MC knew. Now they only have to find a mage that is
capable of removing a hero class mage's curse and prey they have enough money saved up to pay that service. (Revenge done.)
[*] If they don't confess (truly haven't done it (RECALL: I can look into there minds.)), I leave them be and don't pity them for trashing them before, as they deserved a good trashing anyway for being dicks.[/ul]In case those bastards have been innocent, it might get interesting now:
If they rat me out at the hero party and the guild, I provide my "evidence", that pointed me towards them, and clear my name with this. (Even if it must have been wrong, as they are innocent, it wasn't too conclusive and I couldn't have known that back then, could I? ;P )
But it gets really interesting, if somebody is stupid enough to suggest, that the evidence might have been made up, maybe even by myself. That person is suspicious as fuck, as that person somehow knew, that that evidence wasn't something left behind or provided by the actual offenders party. How? >
... and from there is goes on, on that new track.
@ the matter with the guild:
Fuck those guys. Many other have already pointed out, that those guys not only could have handled that better, but might have also provided a job for such a former, valuable asset. Their guildmaster's face also betrayed, that they might have been even forced by somebody to act so cruelly. Nevertheless they did so. Verdict: Arseholes.
@ the matter off the hero:
I don't trust that guy. Even if he stepped in, maybe it was because of a case of bad conscience or he simply didn't want this matter dug up. He might be behind it or part of a conspiracy including the guildmaster and the doctor.
@ the matter of not dispelling the curse earlier:
Now I can't argue with that this was stupid. If something is eating me up and let's me despair like this, I'd try everything that might help. I even would try curse-dispell magic on me by a friend or even by myself, even if I lose many HPs from it, just in case it turns out to be forbidden magic. But maybe he did so and it was sabotaged. But then he would have reflected on that memory after it got dispelled. Never mind.
