naaaah, he isn't skilled with a knife, he was just somewhat used to stabbing and cutting people, there are real trained people in knife arts and with them, oh boy, you will always get hurt no matter what you do if you are unarmed and in close range

I had a friend who was a self defense teacher and had an advanced "Street encounters class". Lesson #1 was always "Run" but the advanced invite-only classes were "What to do when can't run". His opener for new students was to pair them with a more experienced student with a red sharpie. They were told to assume the sharpie was a knife, and have them take the sharpie from their opponent to disarm them. This usually didn't take very long.
The would then tell them to go stand in front of the mirror - if there was ANY red on them, they were told to assume they were bleeding out from a knife wound and would unconscious in 5-10 minutes, max.
This set the tone for the rest of what he'd teach.
