Arima definitely does, hence the "that's why their similar" line. Taiga's father probably won't for some time I imagine. I also agree with you on the gender side; I also dated a transgender man, and while it's not a universal experience, he was happy playing both male and female parts in theatre, but really enjoyed just being a man with me

i wish i could thank peyo personally. it sounds stupid but this manga helped me so much. i read it at a time where i was so very confused about what i was. i was born a girl but encouraged to do boyish things and dress boyish and stuff like that, i even had a popular boys haircut. etc etc. i was in a bad place and unsure of myself, but reading this helped me in ways i can’t put into words. after having a similar thing happen to me in arimas childhood (except the person didn’t fully follow thru) it confused me and left me hurt. sometimes when dressing myself i look at the skirts i own and put them on but end up never wearing them because it feels like it’s going against me and what i am. after reading this i realized that it’s okay if i want to dress like a boy or wear a skirt like a girl. it’s okay if i like girls and its okay that my heart is split in half. we can have many styles and interests, instead of conforming to the stereotypical styles for boys and girls. thank you peyo and may you rest in peace knowing you helped me and so many others in so many ways.

You would have to buy the official translation or look for fan translations on other sites for the extra.
