Just remembered of a very old meme which summarizes the premise of this thread

qcx81l.jpg

It's more or less the same concept. But the thread isn't only about that, but it goes one step further:
How does that premise applies inside manga, anime, videogame, etc, online discussions?

In case you aren't following, because you don't know what "meta" means
meta (adjective) : concerning or providing information about members of its own category

thread dead so I can finally say what I've always thought:

there are three kinds of brains
barboids
oppenheimers
Batmans

Barboids: silly WOMEN (usually) who love self image and insert themselves into fictional properties
Batmans: serious men (usually) who love characters but emulate their best traits while still remaining distinct.
Oppenheimers: serious men (usually) who try to aura farm by pretending they are Batmans but they are actually Barboids.

this forum is really full of barbies
almost everyone wasted time on the premise (classification) and never got to the main thread topic (online discussions), just an other case of going offtopic (intentionally, or unintentionally by nature)
also the poll results either show: a) the barbies didn't vote, or b) they voted as something they aren't
so tiresome and dull

but mangadex is not special in that regard, it's like this almost everywhere else online too
an offtopic wasteland, a derailment circus
which is a shame because there are still many good series (yet few over the total), but they just lack the number of people able to make good discussions over them, so much wasted potential for good discussions

expectedly, or not so surprisingly, the only places where focused series discussions usually happen (focused = not off topic), is in the big and popular battle shounen series
probably because there are two requirements for focused manga discussions to happen
1) attracting the people with the focused mindset, which are apparently rare and not so common (not all shounen fans are focused)
2) the serie being big enough to attract enough of the above focused people to have them talk between each other, which is what really creates focused discussions (focused people alone can only do so much)
even a shounen serie can fail to have focused discussions if it's too little and unknown to form that group of focused people
a serie being shounen or not, isn't a guarantee of having good discussion which doesn't go off topic all the time, though the serie being shounen seems to help

Offended how you don't do any mention of how locked in yuri fans are.
