That's what I was thinking as well. If the dude is genuinely good at judo, it means he trains a lot, so he's not just a random joker. If he takes judo seriously, he also wants serious and tough opponents. Maybe he saw potential in Daichi. His way of "encouraging" others is rather intimidating, but since we are talking about martial arts, intimidation is a part of the business.

I know you learned an epic new word in "gooner", but news flash, I'm sure the author is one too, the author intentionally chose the dialogue, the character designs and the event because it's reminiscent of such doujins, it's obviously going to be subverted, but something can only be subverted if you expected it to happen in the first place. If you actually like the author wasn't intending people to make the connection, then you're either in denial or very stupid.
