It is probably not meant to be taken as strongly, but as someone who has had someone obsess over them in this way in the past, it is a horrible thing. This is harassment, he is not taking no for an answer, he is not taking her thoughts or emotions into consideration, and he does not see anything less than Leah being his as an end.
