That was actually mentioned some chapters ago about her stepmother and how Marie liked her. However, what I didn't know is that stepsister not only turned her own mother, but she also didn't regret her mother's death whatsoever, repeating the same spell for MC. Truly a monstrous individual.

I think this point was when we learned what actually happened to her in the novel as well. She supposedly 'ran away' before this reveal.
