can you tell what you smell you like

i thought it was just a "you can't tell what you smell like" kind of deal but then I tried smelling another person for an extended period of time and they smelled like nothing as well

am confused, how do smells work and what do people smell like

when you intentionally wamt to smell your body odor, yes you can smell it.

but if you're not, then your brain just ignoring the smell, just like nose.

I only can smell myself in 2 situations
When I recently got out of bath or used anything perfumed
Or when I was sweating like a pig
Out off it, I can't smell anything, but a friend of mine always says I smell like dust and cats

apparently i got better sense of smell than other waterfolks, i can smell my own body odor and it smells fine.
on the other hand, i got the worst sense on smells. they think my body odor is disguting.

I only smell the deodorant I used this morning. I guess I could ask someone how I smell, but that would be a little too weird.
Even in my imagination, having another face near my body makes me uncomfortable.

I smell good because I use fancy shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I also put on (just a bit of) cologne when I go out. I also have my own personal Smell Goblin that I keep around to give me a second opinion when I need one.

Also yeah, your brain knows which smells come from yourself, so it doesn't alert you to those smells as much. That's why other people's farts usually smell worse than your own.
