Ooh! Those are pretty cool.

The one thing I can say about it as an anime, is that its phenomenal. People may think it was a bad adaption, but I never did. I do agree its not as good as the other series, but its still very good. Much better than competing series like Gundam Wing IMO.

The show had fantastic views from beginning to end.

My favorite characters were Takeru and Meiya. And Kasumi.

I guess I could share some of my favorite screenshots from Episode 1 of the anime:

The pictures.. It's.. It's all mechas! :notlikethis:
But Takeru and Kasumi are pretty cool, it's just that it's kinda unfortunate Kasumi was underutilized in Unlimited. Though It does seem like she's going to play a bigger role in Alternative so I'm hyped to see that in my playthrough.

This week's DanDaDan was the third strangest rendition of the final movement of Beethoven's 9th I've heard to date.

Number 2 came courtesy of Wendy (Walter) Carlos from the movie version of A Clockwork Orange.

And number 1 came into being two decades back when someone had the idea to stretch a performance of the 9th to last a full 24 hours. The 'official' version of the work has the last movement taking some eight and a half hours to complete.

I am intrigued by the Gundam Project though
Gundam seems like it lends itself to live action somewhat better than a lot of series. Someday when I have an impossible amount of free time I may actually try to start working through that universe.

I have not. Partly because I was made aware of the size of the universe by the first person who recommended it to me, and partly because I have a personal dislike of giant robots.

Oh, well then, I recommend watching Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury. It has giant robots like all Gundam series, but it has a cute female protagonist too. And the Mobile Suits fight mostly in an arena style match that makes it almost like a sport. (Although there is some real combat too in later episodes).

Its probably the best choice if you arent there specifically for the giant robots.

Its an academy style show. She goes to a school that focuses on academics and warfare. Basically a futuristic military academy. Like the West Point of the future kind of...

Enjoy.

I've been thinking for a while that I need to start in on the franchise the next time there's a shitty season and I only end up with a couple of series - thanks for the rec. I'll see how the fall lineup looks - at this point there are five series I'm likely to follow, so I should be able to make time for one or two other titles in there as well. Looks like CR has a pretty solid lock on the property, so that makes it a bit easier.

My advice is, give it 2 episodes. If it hasn't sold you on itself by then you probably won't come around later, either. It is a series with a strong beginning, and it never falls off. But the same theme is consistent all throughout. So if you don't like the beginning, you wont like all the rest.

I'd rate it a 9/10 even without the mechas. It tells a good story that didnt require giant robots to sell.
