Usato over here breaking character to be extra dense and ignore all context clues he would normally get 5 steps before anyone else because the tropes demand it.

Female knights are not exactly uncommon in this world, half if not most of the knights we've met so far have been female so I don't know why he's so surprised at her being female. If it's the height thing do the Japanese just constantly take note of everyone's height that they see in public and mentally cross check it with their in depth knowledge of the average height of males and females to decide weather someone is biologically male or female like some Karen?
I'm genuinely curious since I constantly see height used as the basis for gender in stories like this constantly even when so many context clues are given to deduce the gender already.
