Haven't thoroughly red much of Vol 2 (the actual volume of this arc in particular) but the only changes I know so far is the epilogue is a bit different from the WN (mainly afterparty) and the old epilogue (when maki got sick) became the starting point of Vol 3. The lead-ups to the confession is pretty much the same tho.

It's been known for a year at this point, it is a huge deal for sure, but there's no reason to bring it up again, there is still not a lot of details regarding it.

IIRC, the WN just had Maki seeing her home and her talking out her troubles finding a decent guy who also fills her non-negotiable qualification (i.e., he's hot) along the way. The setting and convo is, obvz, a bit different here.

I'm just reading the raws since I have all the LN volumes currently out rn but I'm still waiting for the TL. The group doing the TL is still busy doing the new Roshidere LN vol iirc.

My problem with Nitta is that she ruins the premise of the title. Umi is the third cutest girl in the class. (Still best girl for Maki, but that wasn’t the title!)

I think its so amazing how its written this part of the story because feels so mundane but the co sequences of his broken family hurt him more than he realizes and he cant even tell yet how damaged he is.... and yes this os the main reason he cant jump in with a relationship with Umi, and he is not even sure why exactly, which is sad but absurdly realistic.

at least rooted in more realistic issues because Maki doesnt even understand exactly what are his problems, and like a classic japanese person he thinks that if he ignores and move on things will improve

No the dad is a decent dude he outright says that relationship didn't even start until after the divorce. He never cheated mentally or otherwise. But yeah our poor boy doesn't even realize why he doesn't like the idea of his dad starting a new relationship. He subconsciously probably wants them to get back together and this new relationship his dad has ruins that and he's slowly realizing things will never be back to normal and it's crushing him.

I would rather that to be the case. That way we'll deal with a more interesting topic/conflict considering there's no "villain" in this situation.
