Because I goddamn don't want this to become a love triangle manga, I don't need that kind of drama, it'd be better if she becomes the only person who knows their secret and acts like a wingwoman for them.

Sorta. Yuu finally starts becoming aware of her attraction to Maki on Christmas but doesn't really take any action because he and Umi are a couple by then. After finding out the following May that they've had sex, though, she becomes frazzled and upset and begins feeling left behind. Perhaps unconsciously, she begins doting on him physically a little more than would be considered proper (particularly by someone as possessive as Umi) and is shocked when the note she begins writing to include with his birthday gift quickly turns into a love letter. Still, it's not really a triangle yet, as only Nitta has assembled the puzzle pieces.

Ugh, the basketball arc was the absolute worst. I almost gave up on the WN altogether during it, it’s long, drawn out and kind of cringy hahaha. It’s long but just power through it though, it gets better once it’s over! I hope the author leaves it out of the LN.

I actually enjoyed it (I'm a sucker for stuff like Baby Steps and Spring Of Little Me), but I can understand people who turn up their noses at stuff like that. Still, it's important in explaining how Umi rebuilds her relationships with her old middle-school group and Maki's physical transformation begins.

out of curiosity, based on the chapters so far, how many WN chapters does 1 manga chapter cover?
it's not 1:1, right?

2-3 WN chapters per, more or less. Since most of Maki's POV narration has been skipped so far, though, that ratio could change if more of his text walls are adapted.

MC is not the kind of guy who would go for 2 or more girls, and FeMC won't let him look at other girls. Airhead-bestfriend is too much of an airhead to even consider romance at this point in her life, she's just being too clingy to everyone.
