I think both are more like: Maki wants Umi and Umi wants Maki, period. Amami will get a character development dealing with her feelings (my bet)

Think they are using some of manga art on the "cutesy" moments, but mostily they are doing their own thing inclined to novel art, also looks like the 3 fronts are in good therms and we are winning on all sides.
