This is so much more than just another romcom manga, shit gets deep man. It explores the concept of divorce on the children so well here, also brought me to tears. I'm typing this just as I finished reading chapter 29.2, please read it, it's so good, genuinely 10/10.

That said, my parents are not divorced so I don't really understand the mindset of people involved in this kind of drama. I just find it extremely unpleasant and it would be more heartwarming to them fixing it, which you almost never see in media.
Personaly, if my parents ever divorced I would talk to neither of them. They always taught me to not trust in people who break vows, so that would apply to them too.
For me, it's cheating that's the ultimate dealbreaker. My parents taught me that betrayal is almost the worst thing you can do. But I don't consider divorce to be betrayal. Stabbing someone in the back is betrayal. Telling someone to their face that you don't want to associate with them anymore is not.

About synopsis, he says it was a secret time. Does this mean they got found out later on.

Reading this manga I always thought the relationship of these two is kinda toxic and things could get real ugly if it took a wrong turn. Then I read the LN and oh boy, their relationship becomes super toxic (as of Vol 7). I can't even root for Yuu because Maki and Umi actually deserve each other (derogatory).

Fellow LN reader here (red up to the current Volume in JP: Vol8) It isn’t really that toxic imo (comparing the buildup from WN). All of them have very tense situations, but neither of them are up to the point of wanting to harbor ill will at each other. Especially Umi, Umi doesnt want to cut her friendship with Yuu. Considering you probably know how Vol 7 ended, you probably know fast the situation got fixed

the problem with Umi and Maki is that their relationship became codependent real fast (we are close to that turning point in the manga already, so enjoy the sugar while it lasts if you are a manga only reading this). it has come to a point that they aren't helping each other grow as a person at all, but actually they are just enabling their worst tendencies. if they didn't have such nice and understanding friends they would've crashed and burned already. but I get this is the type of story being told from vol 3 onwards: an utter idiot couple helping/helped by their friends/family

I disagree of them not helping each other grow imo. There’s nothing much wrong with them being codependent really fast. Maki is becoming more and more actively fixing his life for Umi while Umi steadily striving for supporting him (I.e. wife duties) as well as trying to be like Maki and helping people (even though she fumbles a bit) basically helping each other out. There’s definitely gonna be some kinks along the way (i.e. Umi’s insecurities and such)which is pretty much expected for this series anyways.

People will be disappointed: yea.
But comparing this (LN) to WN is much better imo. Then again that’s that my take 😅

The series is pretty good but why does this main character hate his dad so much? I've reread the chapters several time and I cannot understand his judgement.

I was actually hatereading this at the start because I genuinely couldn't stand the dynamic of the two MCs trying to be secretive and shit. I also had the problem of the MCs CLEARLY being friends, or even more than that, but the male MC still didn't even think that they're friends after hanging out with each other for at least 2 months. Yes bro, she literally slept in your house and you guys STILL AREN'T FRIENDS. Acquaintances normally sleep on others' bed.

Also, why the hell would they even need to be that secretive about hanging out because of a common interest? Did they even think that it would be more suspicious because they're being do secretive? I get that Umi is supposed to be the 2nd cutest girl or whatever but it just makes 0 sense to me. Apparently all these randoms don't have their own lives because they're too busy being jealous of the male MC for being friends with them.

The thing is though that a lot of what I actually complained about gets solved during the later chapters like the secret and the weird self-confidence issues the male MC has in general. Honestly, I'm just going to try and huff the copium smoke and rationalize that all the ragebaiting was intentional.

I would recommend it but ONLY IF you can read through the painful experience of reading the earlier chapters. It's actually fucking grating to follow these MCs before they get to develop.
