Just read chapter 33.1, I just wanna say, oh God please grant this servant of yours a wife like Umi
very peak that i just started crying
For me, it's cheating that's the ultimate dealbreaker. My parents taught me that betrayal is almost the worst thing you can do. But I don't consider divorce to be betrayal. Stabbing someone in the back is betrayal. Telling someone to their face that you don't want to associate with them anymore is not. That said, my parents are not divorced so I don't really understand the mindset of people involved in this kind of drama. I just find it extremely unpleasant and it would be more heartwarming to them fixing it, which you almost never see in media.
Personaly, if my parents ever divorced I would talk to neither of them. They always taught me to not trust in people who break vows, so that would apply to them too.
Fellow LN reader here (red up to the current Volume in JP: Vol8) It isn’t really that toxic imo (comparing the buildup from WN). All of them have very tense situations, but neither of them are up to the point of wanting to harbor ill will at each other. Especially Umi, Umi doesnt want to cut her friendship with Yuu. Considering you probably know how Vol 7 ended, you probably know fast the situation got fixedReading this manga I always thought the relationship of these two is kinda toxic and things could get real ugly if it took a wrong turn. Then I read the LN and oh boy, their relationship becomes super toxic (as of Vol 7). I can't even root for Yuu because Maki and Umi actually deserve each other (derogatory).
the problem with Umi and Maki is that their relationship became codependent real fast (we are close to that turning point in the manga already, so enjoy the sugar while it lasts if you are a manga only reading this). it has come to a point that they aren't helping each other grow as a person at all, but actually they are just enabling their worst tendencies. if they didn't have such nice and understanding friends they would've crashed and burned already. but I get this is the type of story being told from vol 3 onwards: an utter idiot couple helping/helped by their friends/familyFellow LN reader here (red up to the current Volume in JP: Vol8) It isn’t really that toxic imo (comparing the buildup from WN). I disagree of them not helping each other grow imo. There’s nothing much wrong with them being codependent really fast. Maki is becoming more and more actively fixing his life for Umi while Umi steadily striving for supporting him (I.e. wife duties) as well as trying to be like Maki and helping people (even though she fumbles a bit) basically helping each other out. There’s definitely gonna be some kinks along the way (i.e. Umi’s insecurities and such)which is pretty much expected for this series anyways.the problem with Umi and Maki is that their relationship became codependent real fast (we are close to that turning point in the manga already, so enjoy the sugar while it lasts if you are a manga only reading this). it has come to a point that they aren't helping each other grow as a person at all, but actually they are just enabling their worst tendencies. if they didn't have such nice and understanding friends they would've crashed and burned already. but I get this is the type of story being told from vol 3 onwards: an utter idiot couple helping/helped by their friends/family
