Clone “Spoiler” as “Squish”/“Unsquish”.

I suggest cloning the “Spoiler” tags with tags that produce buttons labelled something such as “Squish”/“Unsquish”.

Some users have retasked the “Spoiler” tag to compress content visually, so that it doesn't create clutter. The down-side is that other users may skip content, mistaking it for spoilers exactly because it is labelled as such.

I asked Holo to do this pretty much immediately after the forums were made, along with making images automatically collapsed so that people wouldn't need to rely on weird hacks like this

Now that I'm a dev I guess I could actually do it myself

It's a very necessary feature in theory, but what if people start misusing the new tags to hide actual spoilers? Do moderators have the bandwidth to clean up that crap?

I'm pretty sure most people are not assholes and will not intentionally try to spoil things. However, I'm also pretty sure there will be a significant number of people who will unintentionally use the wrong tag to hide spoilers. That said, I still believe it's worth implementing, but if there is a way to make it obvious to people which tag they're supposed to use in which case, it would be a plus.

A way of ensuring that a spoiler is marked as such is certainly desirable. But, in almost all cases, a person using a “Hyde” tag to obscure a spoiler would be unaware of the “Spoiler” tag, rather than simply selecting a tag other than what he or she intended, and such a person would place an ad hoc warning in his or her comment.

At present, along with the problem of some people missing content mislabelled as spoiling, there is the complementary problem of other people clicking on spoilers because they have mistakenly presumed that the tag has been retasked in a particular instance.

(Note how no one breaks into hot cars with “Baby on Board” tags, because the original function of indicating that an infant was in the vehicle at any time when the tag was displayed was lost when the tags were retasked to preach.)
