So, I believe a lot of groups went to Comick after the mass Mangadex DMCAs, and now it's dead. I am not in their Discord, and don't know if they gave a reason, but I wonder if the decision wasn't by choice. Is scanlation under serious attack?

Haven't seen anything confirmed, but the rumors are that the site owner got a DMCA nuke and decided to bail rather than just take down the affected titles. If someone knows something, I'd also be interested to hear it.

Yes, the Koreans in particular seem to be going after everyone at the moment, but that's just going to push the casual fans away and the serious fans underground. It may reduce the 'problem', but it won't eliminate it.

Unfortunately the article gives zero actual reasons, just quotes the post that the operator put up stating he decided to take it down.

A few things on a quick pass through the Reddit that make it look like there's a group working to cobble something together to replace it, but one also mentions that 'anyone with a background in law is welcome', so I doubt this was an entirely voluntary shutdown.

Things like this doesn't make me want to give the manga/manwha industry more of my money.
Add in more titles being digital-only that you are only renting until they pull the plug and older titles that aren't hosted by any legal sites, it makes me want to walk away from a 30 year hobby.

At this point there are only like 3 manga that I lost that I'm interested enough in tracking down again

I have shelf units full of manga I've collected over the decades. Yet, I haven't been buying many series recently because a lot of publishers are going digital now, or the manga I would want to buy hasn't been released in the states.

Imma be honest, when I figured it out today I almost cried and got a cramp in my leg right after. XD
I relied upon it for Jojo, One Piece, Baki Rahen, and was just about to reread KEIJI OF THE FLOWERS AFTER The team on this site stopped translating!
Here we go again with the search... This freaking sucks.... At the very least MangaDex is still here...

I can't say I'm surprised because after the Mangadex purge, a lot of people went to Comick. When you see people talking about the site on various sites including Reddit, of course they're going to be the next target especially when they have official rips on the site. If you've been reading manga or manhwa for as long as I have, another site will come along (Hail Hydra) to replace it. I will say a lot of the groups that lock away their chapters behind a paywall (especially the ones banned on Mangadex) might see a dip in traffic.

I honestly didn't know about it until I randomly decided to load up my Tachiyomi today and saw a message saying that I had series that couldn't update. When I looked at the info and saw all the series were on Comick, I figured I'd do a bit of searching to see what was going on (maybe it was just a temporary maintenance/down time). Weird how it perfectly happened the first day in about five that I thought to check it. Just great, now I have to once again migrate them to other sites/extensions that might not even have the latest releases (if I can find them at all). The shell game continues.

Additional perks for most digital services being quite restricted on if they actually support your country, if something goes wrong or even are accessible from your country, TOUGH LUCK! :02:

It's ironic that Webtoon seems to be still the best online reading service, though it deals in webtoons only, not manga.

Same, though I stopped buying because I just ran out of shelf space for books.
Also, due to limited availability here, it's really hard to actually buy a full series. I still have Aria missing one volume, I think it was 6, because it's not available from any domestic stores here. Would have to order it from Amazon or something and I dislike that. Additionally, there even isn't an Amazon Finland, so once again "if anything goes wrong, tough!".

Amusingly, I today checked how much would it cost to physically buy Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou from the English publisher and it was $25 a pop (+ delivery). I remember, when most mango cost at most 10€.

I was still baffled they had an official Reddit for their "community", instead of some on-site or partially hidden forums.
Talk about waving the flag before a bull...

The time to buy 50 coins at 3$ to have half of a 5 pages chapter is coming soon bros. :meguusmug:

@rh75
Kobo has a 'light' DRM if you want.
50 for 3€ now that is cheap, usually it's 100 for 10€ and of course each chapter always costs something odd that results in you having a few coins on you taunting you to buy more.
Microtransactions everywhere and for everyone!

I'm pretty sure every major manga/anime site has an official Reddit, including Mangadex. Mostly for people to alert each other if the site's down or whatever.

Not sure if it is true or not, but apparently the owner of the comick site used their real name to register the domain. Not the smartest move to attach one's real info when running a piracy site.

Well the search begins again for a good backup reader site. Shame I don't like the mangapark interface, it feels cluttered and not very intuitive compared to other sites but has the widest selection of titles as far as I can tell.

Most if not all domain registers need your real name and accurate info to proceed to complaint with ICANN requirements, usually this companies offer the option to keep the record not being public either free or with a fee, but at least there are two companies that knows the person behind a domain
