Hallo hallo and greetings from somber times.

There are currently widespread protests going on across the United States regarding, among other things, the police and their actions against US civilians. There are plenty of resources available online for more information on the situation, so we won't go into further detail on it here. We know that people on all sides of the argument would like to discuss the situation and generate support for their side, and MangaDex staff members are no exception.

We'd like to take the time to remind scanlators and readers alike that inserting political content into manga that is otherwise devoid of it is against our rules, as previously announced. MangaDex is a platform for reading manga and posting scanlations, not a platform for spreading political agendas to people who want nothing more than to escape reality and enjoy their isekai adventures and romcom hijinks. Political discussion, regardless of the position, always ends up dominating the comments section and shuts people out from having discussions about the chapter. It's common for political arguments to get heated, and the amount of reports generated create an overwhelming burden on our few moderators who are just volunteers, like all staff are.

That being said, we understand that people do want an outlet on the site to express their feelings about current events. MangaDex, as a platform, won't take a stance on the matter or ask users to take a particular stance either. However, if you'd like to discuss the protests, you're free to do so in the general forum and in this thread. We just ask that you follow our forum rules.

On a final note, we ask that our users be careful when choosing an organization to donate to. We don't want our users to donate to a fake organization seeking to take advantage of and profit from this event. During the Kyoto Animation fire there was a single fundraiser link we were able to direct users to. With how widespread this event is, it's not quite as clear who you should be donating to that is trustworthy. If you're considering donating to support those affected by this event, a potential option would be your local bail fund as found here, or any other nationally known organization.

Thank you as always and stay safe. We will hopefully have something new to announce in the following week that solves slow loading on older chapters.

Stay safe, don't fall for provocation, record everything, and as probably the cheesiest thing I've ever publically written, show the world how brave and warm America really is.

My personal recommendation to donate to would be the ACLU. They've been around for 100 years now and they have a good track record defending the civil liberties of everyone, of all backgrounds and beliefs. Everyone deserves the same basic civil liberties granted to them by the constitution or else things go down a slippery slope...

I won't pretend that I understand much about the factors that lead up to this situation, it's all quite bigger than me... but I'm optimistic that things will change, hopefully for the better.

Since I don't live in the US, I feel I don't have the right to make any comments on the recent events nor qualified to advise on this subject.
What I can definitely say I feel is: disillusion and frustration at the loss of human life and the poor reaction of the people in charge.

People are fighting for the safekeeping of their livelihood against the prevalent hate culture. For basic civil rights. For the inherently right to feel safe. I can only hope that, at the end of the road, this will inspire the much needed change and progress, not only for the US but for all the world.

I believe in the righteousness of the protests here in the US and have supported them financially as much as I can.

However, I am in agreement with disallowing people to use MD as a political platform. We're all here to read manga, not read about the stuff we come to MD to escape from.

@hazzack be NEET, sit at home all day, in internet you only read manga and download games. You prefer singleplayer games to avoid unnecessary interaction with other people. Something like that.

World's a shitty place for average person. Blacks in specific get the worst of it in USA. However, that's no reason to worsen lives for average people and ourselves by looting & burning essential businesses.

The whole black lives matter, and how uninformed white people respond with all lives matter then get hate bashed. I feel pretty bad about claiming all those people are racist simply because they're unaware of the motivation & understanding behind BLM. Too many people, organizations and information exist for a regular person to know it all. It's fine to be uninformed about something, no need to further the spread of hate especially when they apologize for their ignorance.

Personally George's death was horrible in so many ways. The officers on scene should all be held accountable with serious punishments. At the same time, I believe laws concerning looting should be stronger for the property owners. When you spend years working to open a small business, say a liquor store, and it ends up a burnt wreckage that's ruining your livelihood.

Sum it up. Burning and stealing shit from innocent third-partys is wrong. Change won't ever happen if unwarranted violence and personal greed are the driving force of peaceful protests.

Sadly the reason so many people are out 'protesting' is because the pandemic has left these people trapped indoors, unemployed and angry.

Since I left Twitter a few months ago I'm not all that informed on how things are going but what a year this is, huh...

meanwhile in Brazil you have a rise in facism and antifascism manifestations being treated by the president's family as terrorism -_-'

I agree with and thank you guys for (trying) to keep the platform as a refuge for the tired 'u'

I'm not surprised MD is taking the "neutral" stance. It is, however, an incredible display of privilege to be able to say that MD should be a place where people escape from the real world. The Black community cannot escape from police murdering their men, women, and children. They cannot escape from the over-policing of their community and the racism they experience. To come to MD and act like it isn't happening, and to withhold official support for this movement, is like being a bystander to the inequities facing black americans. If anything, though this will change nothing, I hope you realize that supporting BLM and the protests is not a political issue. It is a human rights issue; If you want to "forget" about it while on MD then go ahead. But realize how much of a privilege that is.
